Project: Presentation

Assigned: Wednesday, May 3, 2017

Due: Presentation times will be assigned in the second to last week of class.

Submitting your work: You do not need to turn anything in; just give your presentation. If you like, you can include your presentation slides with your final report.

The project presentation is an opportunity for you to show the class what you’ve built, but also to discuss the choices you made along the way. Your presentation should include an introduction, a demonstration of your visualization, and a discussion of the design and implementation your produced. Presentation time will be limited to roughly 12 minutes, so you may have to omit some details. You will have an opportunity to give more detail in your report.

Introduction

In your introduction, should answer the following questions about your visualization:

  1. What is this visualization supposed to help us learn?
  2. What makes your visualization’s topic important?
  3. What data did you use to build your visualization?
  4. What kind of processing did you do to your data before displaying it?

Demonstration

For the demonstration, you should show us:

  1. How do we use your visualization?
  2. What do you think we should conclude about your data?

I strong recommend that you make this portion of the presentation interactive.

Design & Implementation

Finally, you should discuss the design and implementation of your visualization. Please answer the following questions:

  1. What decisions did you make when designing your visualization?
  2. Were there any implementation issues? Did these limit your design choices?
  3. Did you have any false starts or failed attempts? Tell us about them.
  4. What would you change or add to your visualization if you had more time?
